FUNDRAISING FOR HARTLEY COLLEGE

HCPPA Canada & USA, along with the other PPA branches around the world support the decision of Hartley PPA Global Trust to purchase the 5.6 lacham land situated opposite to the school adjoining the house of Procter Jayasingam. Five branches agreed to contribute towards the total cost of SLR 3.6 million. The plot adjoining this land was purchased by PPA Trust in 2002 with funding from London branch on which now an auditorium is being built for Hartley (picture above right) with funding from an NGO.HCPPA Canada & USA agreed to raise and contribute Canadian $6,000 towards this project. Hartley Trust under the stewardship of Mr.Shanmuganthan is purchasing this land with a view of building a Vocational Training Centre with funding from the government or NGOs. This centre will serve everyone in the greater Point Pedro/ Vadamarachi region. With this project Hartley will expand its services to the entire region.

Founded in 1838, the Hartley College has established its glory as a frontier scholarly institution worldwide.
The College has continuously excelled with unparalleled academic performance in island-wide examinations and has produced thousands of professionals notablely in the fields of Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Science. Our students are also actively involved in sports such as Cricket, Football, Volleyball, as well as Athletics.

Hartleyites are found in the top echelons of all disciplines and walks of life with eminence and outstanding ability, such as Prof. C. J. Eliezer, Prof. A. Thurairajah and Prof. A. Veluppillai. The committment of our past principals and teachers has elevated the College to a prestigious position in the Island and given the College fame of global dimension

In recognition of the service the College rendered to the Tamil community, a commemorative new stamp was issued on her 150th Anniversary.

We have Past Pupils' Associations in Colombo, the U.K., Australia and Canada contributing to the well being of the College. With determination and resolve, the College will serve future generations, as splendidly as it has served many sons and daughters in 150 years of history.
